I got my first commercial client by sending a DM to a surf camp while traveling through Morocco. I pitched surf businesses because I am a surf fanatic, and that mattered: knowing who you pitch, and why, is half the job.
That first deal was an exchange, content for the stay. It never turned into money. The lesson stuck: exchanges are not a ramp into paid work. Paid work came later, and differently: I emailed a premium surf company asking for work as a videographer. Nothing happened. Months later they wrote back, because they still had my portfolio, and that email became a full-time job.
So the two things that actually moved my career were choosing the right businesses to pitch, and the follow-through that happens after the first message. Both are exactly what most of us creatives are worst at, because nobody taught us, and because the research takes hours we would rather spend shooting.
I use it every day for my own client work. Every feature exists because I needed it on a real pitch, and founding members using it since day one keep shaping what gets built next. You can see what shipped each week inside the app.
One promise stays fixed: Avag only chases paid work. No gifting, no exposure deals, no selling your data (see the privacy policy).
